Why Idealists Are The True Realists

This is a short but inspiring speech by Viktor Frankl on believing the best in people that is well worth watching. I first came across it on TED but i have linked directly to the Youtube clip.

My favourite line from this speech is the quote from Goethe: “If we take man as he is, we make him worse but if we take man as he should be, we make him capable of becoming what he can be“.

Then there’s this (which i’ve slightly paraphrased):  “If you pre-suppose that there must be a spark of search for meaning in even the so-called worst man then you will elicit it from him and you will make him become what he, in principle, is capable of becoming“.
